Join us at K2 this Sunday as we kick off the new year with the message series “Make 2016 Great”.
January 10 – The Great One
We take a deep look into Jesus Christ and what it is about Him that makes Him greater than anyone or anything else, exalted to the highest place with the name above all names.
January 17 – Descending into Greatness
On this day we look at the passage from the Book Mark (10:35-45). Cannot be a more classic teaching which reveals the reality of the kingdom of God and how upside down it is from the rest of the world. Greatness is in servitude.
January 24 – Greatness Flows out of Identity
“so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.” John 13:4-5
John 13 verse 4 starts of with “so”. It reveals that Jesus became the servant in this moment, He knew who He was and it was this understanding and security that made Him free from selfish ambition and able to serve. When we start to understand this, it will also move us to be a servants too.
January 31 – The Beginning of Greatness
In a sense, the washing of the feet is a parable, or a symbol of the greater work that Jesus is about to do. To participate with Jesus, He must wash us. To be one with Him, to receive His Spirit and to be like Him, to be able to be any type of servant like He is…He must cleanse us of our sin. The beginning of greatness comes in receiving salvation from our sin.
February 7 – The Commitment to Greatness
“When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. 13 “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.” John 13:12-17
There is something radical that changes in one’s life when Jesus is actually Lord. This day it will be a calling to true greatness, which is complete humility. Will we do WHATEVER He tells us to do? Is He our Lord? If He is, then this passage could not be more clear. We are to wash each others feet. We are to do as He has done for us. We are to lay our lives down and live for others. We are to serve. To be great in the kingdom of God.
