Resources and Tools

1. What is a Disciple?

A disciple of Jesus can be defined by Jesus’ call to his future disciples in Matthew 4:19

Matthew 4:19 (ESV)

And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

A disciple of Jesus is someone who:

  1. FOLLOWS Jesus, “Follow me.”
  2. Is being CHANGED by Jesus, “and I will make you.”
  3. And on MISSION with Jesus, “fishers of men.”

2. Relationship

Jesus walked with his disciples for 3 years, not only teaching them but living alongside them. Disciple makers who grow in relationship with those they are discipling will have more influence as trust is earned.  Healthy relationships take time and are fueled by vulnerability, shared experience and care.

3. How Do We Make Disciples at K2?

In order to make disciples who know Christ we must teach our disciples to hear and obey his voice.

John 10:27 (ESV)

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”

In order to teach our disciples to hear His voice, we will practice daily reading of the scriptures and prayer coupled with weekly meetings.

The Word

When you start meeting with your disciple, encourage them to read scripture building up to 7 days per week, preferably the same scripture you are reading and to SOAP throughout the week so they can learn to meditate on and apply His Word.

Prayer

Start by having your disciple ask God what they should know and what they should do based on the scripture they have been meditating on, and the circumstances they face.

Weekly Meeting

In your weekly meeting ask these 5 questions.

  1. How did it go, taking your step of faith in response to God from last week?
  2. What did God teach you through his Word this week?
  3. What is the Holy Spirit teaching you through your life circumstances this week?
  4. What is one thing God is asking you to do this week in response to hearing His voice?
  5. Who are you going to tell about what you are learning?

4. Multiplication

2 Timothy 2:2 (NIV)

And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.

God’s plan is for everyone to find freedom and fullness through Christ (1 Timothy 2:4). The way of Jesus leads us to spread His message to the next generation. Paul gives a vision for multiplication to the 4th generation. Paul -> Timothy -> Reliable Men -> Others
