More Room To Be Tight!
07/01/2008
Six years ago the invitation was given to me to consider planting a church in Salt Lake City. Once it was decided that this was indeed God's idea, plans went into motion to put a team together and to figure out what God was asking us to do. One thing that was certain from the beginning was that we were not called to plant just one church. From the first church would come multiple churches or we were not being the church God called us to be.

Well, after launching K2 The Church on September 26, 2004 we are ready to take our first step in multiplying ourselves! We have pretty much maxed out our present location. That is great news that so many people are getting a chance to hear of the life-changing love of Jesus Christ. We have also longed to be a church that is a tight community. This has not always been easy to accomplish with the growth that has happened. But we believe this next step for K2 has the chance to make more room for us to be tight.

Construction is in full swing on a warehouse across the parking lot from our current facility. We are creating a second meeting space that will give us twice as much capacity as we currently have. We will have four services to choose from that will all be at optimum times. Our hope is that people will find one service that fits their schedule and commit, with their friends to come to that same service each week. This will allow for more consistent interaction with people week after week. Our goal is to be in this new facility on August 24th.

Not only will we have a second meeting place for our Sunday morning worship, but our children's ministry, Adventure Canyon, is expanding as well. New, larger rooms are being constructed for a new, exciting program that will launch this fall. As kids join their parents at the same service they too will have a better chance to be with the same teacher and the same kids each week. Building strong friendships this way will only enhance their spiritual growth.

We are also able to expand our offices to make room for our growing staff of now 24 employees. Ministries now have ample room to have all their staff in one place so that work is done in tighter community.

It is an exciting time for K2! I hope that you will continue to check back and see how the construction is coming along. I also hope that you will come and join us in helping to make it happen! If you want to be a part of the team that is making this next step a reality we would love to have you.

Let's never forget that God loves every person in this valley. That includes you and every person that you personally know. He wants us to know Him, His love and to love Him back. He also wants us to really love each other. And since He wants this for everyone - that's why we are committed to making More Room To Be Tight!

We're making "More Room to be Tight" by creating a new auditorium and more classroom space in the Adventure Canyon building across the parking lot. The work has been progressing every week, but now we need YOUR help to meet our grand opening deadline next month! We are looking for skilled carpenters and electricians, as well as volunteers of all kinds to do everything from pulling wires to painting to sweeping up the daily dirt. Check out our table in the lobby, and sign up to help K2 expand to create space for another unique community.

more room This is an exciting time as we build K2 person by person, ministry by ministry. What's even more exciting is that K2-Salt Lake is only part of what God has in store long term.

As a church "plant" of Kensington, it's kind of in our DNA.

Our vision is that K2 will be not only an amazing place of spiritual growth for the people of Salt Lake but it will also be a breeding ground for future church plants.

We'll commit resources to make sure that K2 members can build skills and gain experience to share God's love around the country and around the world. Who knows? You may be a future leader for one of K2's offspring!
